Sunflower Mug: handmade with white stoneware clay, thrown on pottery wheel. Original design painted with underglaze with slip-trailed details.
I get completely lost in the painting and love to make these mugs. I sketch out the design loosely in pencil, then start layering in the petals with underglaze in yellow, orange and brown. Next I slip trail a black outline to add some detail and dimension to each flower. The scratchy orange texture on the base is a nice contrasting pattern. The outside of the mug is dipped in a clear glaze, and the interior is a warm oatmeal glaze which compliments the warm color palette. And because I can't leave any blank surface alone, the bottom of the mug gets another flower:)
This mug is approximately 3.5"diameter x 3.25"tall and holds 12oz of liquid
Glaze is food safe, ok to use in microwave or dishwasher. But to protect and maintain finish and surface decoration, hand washing is best.
